I’ve been having good luck with my Bird of Paradise plant and decided to try planting some other bulb plants. I know: strictly speaking a Bird of Paradise plant is not a bulb plant, but close enough. I planted a number of ornamental bulbs, but I also planted some onions and garlic, and out of all of them, they are coming up great!
I’ve never actually seen an onion bloom. It’s kinda cool. And it’s already attracting visitors …
And one more picture … a little stink bug on a new Bird of Paradise shoot.
Don’t take my YouTube away from me!
I can’t remember the first place I saw a Soft Pink Truth video … I think it may have been on Everything is Terrible … but maybe not?
I really like Kitchen. It’s a stupidly fun song and kinda awesome video.
Movie Sign: Bert I. Gordon
Bert I. Gordon passed away a few weeks ago. He was a prolific director of the 60’s, producing both noteworthy and campy movies. One of my favorite Gordon directed movies – and my favorite episode of MST3k – is Tormented.
Maybe I should post a Bjork video?
2005 was a simpler time. Bjork was getting drunk in bars and cats were thinking about buying boats. Anyways, here’s Triumph of a Heart:
That bar scene looks like it was super fun to film.
Rugby Scholarship at UHD
So I started a Rugby Enthusiast Scholarship at University of Houston-Downtown. It’s a scholarship for rugby player and fans.
Some of you may say: “But Billy, UHD doesn’t have a rugby team!” This is true, but maybe there are some older guys and gals that play club rugby, or used to play, or maybe are just fans of rugby who want to go back and finish a bachelor’s degree or go for a masters. This is for them.
If no one donates anything, it will be fully funded by yours truly in about 7 years time. But you can help get this thing going sooner by contributing to the cause https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/UHDRugby
Postcrossing Stamps!
Here are some interesting stamps from my Postcrossing collections!
Debt-Free in 2023!

I’m starting 2023 off right! I’m debt-free!
Would you blame it on the water?
The first time I heard Sir Woman‘s Blame It On The Water, it was on KUTX in Austin following a PSA about procedures to correct men’s incontinence. The DJ had trouble not snickering.
Dance on Your Knees!
Oh man … what can I say about Hall & Oats that hasn’t already been said. I remember seeing this video as a kid and just being amazed by it. The big drum set, them getting run over by it, and then their flatten bodies being posted on the wall. As an adult, I appreciate Oats totally hamming is up in the background and especially when they’re trapped in the drum. Also: Oats is obviously the more fashionable of the two – Zubas with hi-top Nikes – too much. Is Oats wears legging with white Nikes in one of the scenes? EVEN BETTER.
And this video … as a kid I was fascinated with the part where Oats is swimming by on a cloud.
The daycare that I went to as a kid used to do field trips to a skating rink. They had some random stuff from the Disney Channel and a few music videos from MTV that they would play on a projector tv while we skated around – this was one of the videos. I loved this song, but it wasn’t till much, MUCH later that I learned that the lyrics were “What does it matter?” instead of “Mind over Matter.”
And how can we forget this fever dream of a Christmas video? Honestly probably one of my favorite covers of Jingle Bell Rock.
Movember 2022
One of the guys on my rugby team does Movember – where grow a mustache during the month of November to raise money for various men’s health issues. Movember started in support of prostate cancer awareness, but has grown to cover other men’s health issues like suicide prevention. It’s pretty cool, so I do it too.
If you have a few scarves lying around, how about throwing a few on the pile for men’s health? You can do that here: https://movember.com/m/14637302?mc=1
